Prvý počítač, ktorý používal feritové pamäte (core memory) bol počítač Whirlwind na MIT. Jendým z hlavných objaviteľov tejto myšlienky bol Jay Forrester. Do počítača Whirlwind nainštalovali túto pamäť v lete 1953. Mala dve veľké výhody: (1) vyššiu spoľahlivosť a tým aj zníženie času údržby počítača a (2) rýchlejší prístupový čas (core access time is 9 us; tube access time is approximately 25 us) a teda celkové zrýchlenie počítača.

Zaujimave je, ze ferity s pravouhlou hystereznou sluckou objavili Nemci cez druhu svetovu vojnu. Vzorky materialu sa dostali do USA a tam niekoho napadlo, ze by sa to dalo pouzit v pocitacoch (A History of Modern Computing By Paul E. Ceruzzi).
Prve pocitace, kde sa pouzili boli znamy Eniac a Whirlwind. Potom sa este chvilu pouzivali ako "cache" pre diernostitkove pamate :)

Tento typ je na doske s rozmermi 96 x 96 mm. Doska obsahuje 16 x 16 elementov. Priemer jadierka 2,5 mm.
Typ 3 (4 x 4096 bit)
Tento typ je na doske s rozmermi 165 x 180 mm. Na nej sú štyri poschodia 149 x 149 mm. Každé poschodie obsahuje 4 sektory s 32 x 32 elementov. Priemer jadierka 1 mm.
Typ 4 (16 kbit)
Tento typ je na doske s rozmermi 150 x 150 mm. Doska obsahuje obsahuje 4 sektory, každý s 64 x 64 elementmi. Priemer jadierka 0,5 mm.
